The research program of my laboratory is focused on bacterial
infections of the horse with emphasis on diseases caused by
the pathogenic streptococci and leptospira. Our research utilizes
contemporary technologies and genomics with the aims of understanding
host-parasite interaction at all stages of infection from
initial entry to onset of protective immune responses during
recovery.
We are especially interested in the role of the tonsillar
complex in entry of Streptococcus equi and generation of protective
immune responses.
The ultimate goals are development of improved vaccines,
immunodiagnostics and more effective management of outbreaks
and care of affected horses.
