With recent world events, and concern about disease outbreaks,
the areas of biosecurity, disinfection and disaster planning/preparation
are hot topics. I have been involved in clinical research
involving biosecurity and equine infectious diseases for 20
years, and they continue to be my primary areas of focus. I'm
also involved with equine disease surveillance in Kentucky,
and the development of animal disaster plans for veterinarians
and animal owners, which are all integrated with biosecurity.
I am the only faculty to have formal teaching and advising
commitments in the Veterinary Science Department, advising
over 180 pre-veterinary students who are Kentucky residents.
The University of Kentucky has the largest Pre-Veterinary
program in the state, and we have consistently had well prepared
students ready for veterinary school application to Auburn,
Tuskegee and multiple other veterinary schools across the
United States.
